INTERNAL REMODELING: This existing house was characterised by narrow unusable rooms which felt like circulation routes. The existing playroom did not function as it was a dark internal room. We removed the internal walls without the need for an extension creating bright useable space. A central island with natural stone in the open plan family room defines the space. The bathrooms upstairs were remodeled to create more useable space in a with the clever use of curved walls finished in mosiac tiles. Extensions & remodeling DAVID WRIGHT ARCHITECTS
Clontarf 1: This contemporary house extension maximised the southerly orientation to great effect with a light filled kitchen and family room to the rear of the existing house. The glazed facade allows views into the garden but incorporates a bay window and overhanging roof to create shading in the summer. The bay window also defines a frame for the large sliding doors, with level access onto to a timber deck. This seamless transition means that the outdoor space - first the deck and then the garden, becomes part of the room in the summer.
A step at the old back door was used as a seat on a sunny winters days. This provided the inspiration for a black terrazzo seat that soaks up the sun all year round - but is much bigger - with room for all the family.
